Discover More About Massimo Bottura

1986, Massimo Bottura embarked on his remarkable journey as a restaurant owner by acquiring Trattoria del Campazzo, a charming eatery nestled on the outskirts of his beloved hometown, Modena. Bottura began to lay the foundation for his future success as a visionary chef and culinary maestro.

Drawing inspiration from the culinary skills of his mother and grandmother, he embarked on a journey that blended his classical French training, acquired under the guidance of Chef Georges Coigny, with the rich heritage of Emilia Romagna's traditional cuisine.

Dedicating eight years to honing his craft, he bravely left Campazzo to join forces with the renowned Alain Ducasse at Louis XV in Montecarlo. This pivotal mentorship greatly influenced the Italian chef, leading to his return to Modena in 1995 to establish Osteria Francescana.

Bottura explored Italian regional cuisine, fearlessly blending contemporary cooking techniques. His musings on philosophy, history, and art harmoniously coexisted with a deep appreciation for local ingredients and simple recipes.

The Most Influential Chef in Modena

Osteria Francescana achieved the pinnacle of culinary accolades by winning both the renowned Michelin and World's 50 Best Restaurants awards. Furthermore, in 2011, Bottura was bestowed with the esteemed Grand Prix de l'Art by the International Culinary Academy in Paris.
Bottura shifted his focus to tackle societal issues such as food waste and social exclusion. Together with his wife Lara Gilmore, he founded Food For Soul, a non-profit initiative. Their goal is to nourish and uplift marginalized individuals by serving them nutritious and delightful meals that might otherwise go to waste.

He has also delivered captivating speeches at numerous prestigious symposiums and conferences worldwide. Additionally, he has graced several acclaimed television shows such as Chef’s Table, as well as a compelling documentary titled Theatre of Life (2016).
