Food and Drink experiences in Newcastle

Here are just some of the food and drink experiences in Newcastle currently taking place at the Blackfriars Dominican Friary. All of which are available to book online with tabl.com:

Tour of Medieval Blackfriars with Lunch

We start with a fascinating food and drink tour of Blackfriars itself. Designed to give you an insight into the history of the popular Newcastle-Upon-Tyne restaurant.

Dating back to the year 1239, the former medieval refectory is believed to be the oldest dining room in Great Britain. As part of the guided tour, you will be able to explore the impressive building, which despite a recent refurbishment has maintained many of its original features.

Following the tour will be a traditional British 3-course lunch, complete with a glass of house wine or beer. All from just £27.50 per person.

Beer Tasting in Newcastle

The Parlour Bar is open all year round, however, we strongly recommend booking a beer tasting session in advance. This way, you can sample the local ale as well as a selection of those guest beers from around the world.

As well as beer and nibbles, guests can expect an introductory talk as well as a potential discount on their evening meal. Making the £29 price point a bargain. We’re currently taking bookings for “Whey Ale Man Beer Tasting” and “New World Hops and Cans”.

Gin Tasting in Newcastle

In recent years there has been a resurgence in the gin market, with bespoke distilleries becoming increasingly popular.

As a result, Blackfriars is hosting 2 separate “Gin O’Clock” sessions. Again, much like the beer tasting, one of which will focus on local/premium gins. Meanwhile the other takes a look at gins from around the world.

3 Course Lunch at Blackfriars Restaurant

Alternatively, you may just wish to be left to your own devices. Tasting the delicious and authentic local food of Newcastle in private. A such, you can book a table in advance from just £25 per head, ready to delve into a 3-course lunch in this historic restaurant.

The deal is available most days throughout the year (excluding Sundays), albeit subject to availability. Please double-check our online booking calendar, ready to experience one of the best places to eat in Newcastle first hand.
