Itinerary
1
Piazza Torquato Tasso: a stunning central square in Sorrento, Italy graced by the great poet Torquato Tasso's name. S. Antonino Abbate, the patron saint, watches over it from his statue. Treat yourself to some IGP lemon with sugar before walking to Vallone dei Mulini, or the Valley of the Mills. The 13th-century mills were made of stone ground grain. The valley owes its existence to water released after the Campi Flegrei eruption.
2
As you promenade further, relish a scrumptious “tagliere,” featuring the finest local cheeses and salamis, whilst pausing on the thoroughfare of Corso Italia.
3
Sorrento’s Cloister of San Francesco is an oasis of tranquillity steps away from the historic town’s bustling central piazza of Sant’Antonino. Built on the remains of a 7th century monastery and dating back to the 14th century has a unique architecture, the cloister unites a religious complex of the seventh-century monastery and a late mediaeval church, both dedicated to St Francis of Assisi and is a showpiece of various architectural styles from pre-Roman through Arabic to mediaeval.
4
Villa Comunale rests majestically on the gardens of the Franciscan friars, boasting a splendid park of palm trees, holm, oaks, and century-old pines with sweeping views of the sea. From this vantage point, one can take in the breathtaking vista of the Gulf, dominated by the Volcano Vesuvius, and capture its enchanting beauty.
5
Marina Grande, Sorrento's charming fishing village, has garnered world renown for its delectable seafood restaurants. The exquisite local fare is often enjoyed by visitors relaxing on its small volcanic beaches, where the sands shimmer black in the vibrant sun.
6
Once the sole gateway to the town for sea-faring travellers, this picturesque quarter enchants passersby with its bobbing vessels and pastel painted dwellings - a countryside setting that has played host to many Hollywood movies, including Sophia Loren's films.
7
Indulge in the flavours of the Mediterranean with the flavorful fried "cuoppo," a delightful paper cone filled with calamari, prawns, and the freshest of local fish.
