What you’ll do

Meet your guide at your Santiago hotel and climb aboard a comfortable tour vehicle. Embark on the 2.5-hour drive south of Santiago's city limits to La Postolle winery (or similar), a family-operated viña (vineyard) and one of the country's producers of award-winning wines. Sit down for a tasting of varietals like carmenere, viognier and syrah while admiring the near rows of grapevines and rolling hills beyond. Get to know the winemakers and ask any questions about the wine production process. Continue to the town of Santa Cruz, ground zero for the Colchagua Valley's wine-related activities. At Ruta del Vino, a gourmet boutique, pick up your souvenir bottle of reserve wine (included) to take home.  Take a break for lunch; if you've chosen the 'Tour Plus Lunch' option, head to an intimate local restaurant. If not, take recommendations from your guide or scout a place on your own.  With your hunger sated, continue to the day's second winery, Montes or Viu Manent. Both wineries produce several award-winning varietals, including malbecs and syrahs.  End your day at the Colchagua Museum (Museo de Colchagua), back in Santa Cruz. Geat a look at Chile's history through displays on the country's pre-Columbian cultures and some 300-million-year-old fossils.  Return to your Santiago hotel for drop-off at the conclusion of your 9-hour tour.

Itinerary
1
After your hotel pickup from Santiago, your Colchagua Valley day trip starts with a 2.5-hour drive south of the city to La Postolle winery (or similar), a family-operated viña (vineyard) that produces some of Chile's award-winning wine.
2
Admire the vineyard’s beautiful setting in the shadow of the foothills while you enjoy your tasting of wines such as syrah, viognier and carmenere. Next, head into the town of Santa Cruz, the hub for Colchagua Valley’s wine tours and activities. Visit Ruta del Vino, a wine and gourmet shop where you’ll receive a bottle of reserve wine to take home with you. Then, meet the Colchagua Museum (Museo de Colchagua) in Santa Cruz. Take a break from all the wine with an interesting look at Chile’s history. As you tour the in-depth museum, check out its displays about Chile’s pre-Columbian cultures and the Spanish conquest. You’ll also see 300-million-year-old fossils, admire ancient jewelry and art, and learn about Charles Darwin’s time in the country. After our incredible cultural history, we will take a break for lunch.
3
If you choose the 'Tour plus Lunch' option, go with your guide to a cozy Santa Cruz restaurant (varies by day). If you select the 'Tour Only' option, scout out another restaurant in town, perhaps enjoy a picnic if you’ve brought your own lunch with you, or eat with your guide and group and pay separately.
4
When lunch is over, make your way to your second winery, either Viu Manent or Montes, to enjoy another wine tasting. Viu Manent, founded in 1935 by the Spanish Viu family, makes several wines, from single-vineyard syrah to its VIU 1 wine: a malbec made from 100-year-old vines. Montes winery produces cabernet sauvignons, malbecs and syrahs and is known for its conservation efforts and sustainable grape-growing practices.
5
You’ll then be driven back to your Santiago hotel.
