Graves Wine Region: A Journey Through Bordeaux’s Wine making History
6
Set off from Bordeaux and escape the city’s hustle for the serene landscapes of the left bank’s Graves wine-producing area. Known as the birthplace of Bordeaux viticulture, the Graves region boasts vineyards that have thrived for over 2,000 years. The deep gravel and stone soil create an ideal environment for producing the region’s famous red and white wines, giving them a distinctive flavour that reflects centuries of wine-making excellence.
7
Your first stop is a Grand Cru Château, where you’ll enjoy a private tour and tasting session. Savour a variety of carefully selected vintages while learning about the region’s wine-making techniques, grape varieties, and unique terroir. Your guide will be by your side, offering insights into wine tasting, aromas, and pairings, ensuring a truly enriching experience.
8
Explore Pessac-Léognan: Bordeaux’s Prestigious Appellation
9
Next, continue your journey into the celebrated Pessac-Léognan appellation, renowned for producing exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc, and Semillon wines. Established in 1987, this appellation is part of the historic Graves region and shares its gravelly, stony soil, resulting in wines with extraordinary character.
10
During your visit to a handpicked Château, indulge in a tasting of Pessac-Léognan’s most exquisite red and white wines. Each sip reveals the appellation’s wine-making artistry and the subtle nuances of its terroir. Among the most notable wineries is Château Haut-Brion, the only 1er Grand Cru Classé located outside the Médoc and Sauternes, a testament to its enduring legacy and superior quality.
