What you’ll do

Prepare for a magical journey along the Camino de Santiago in the northern Basque Country! We’ll explore the stunning Basque coast and picturesque vineyards, savouring farm-to-table delights and concluding with a Port-to-Table lunch in Getaria. Way of Saint James - “Gourmet Edition” Calling all foodies! As we roam the farmers market, get ready to indulge in local treats like artisan apple cider, Idiazabal cheese, and apple jelly. Along the trail, we'll swing by a Txakoli winery, spill the secrets, and enjoy a tasting of their diverse wines with some local appetizers. Wrapping up the day with a visit to the medieval village of Getaria, we'll cap it off with a delightful 3-course meal at a cozy local spot. Unforgettable moments await!"

Visit Zarautz:

The adventure begins visiting Zarautz, known for its golden sand beach, surfing and whaling legends and past royal vacationers.

First Foodie Stop, the Farmer’s Market:

After a chill stroll along the promenade, snapping cool pics, and soaking up its history, gear up for the farmers market visit. We’ll have a 30-minute gourmet break, munching on artisan apple cider, local Idiazabal cheese, and apple jelly surrounded by farmers.

This flavorful pitstop will be followed by our second hike. We’ll trek along a Roman path through vineyards for about 45 minutes, reaching the summit of Santa Barbara hill (130 meters high) for a break and stunning views.

Second Foodie Stop, Tasting at a Txakoli Winery:

Next, we’ll explore a local Txakoli winery. Dive into the world of Txakoli as you sip and savor this renowned, refreshing, and crispy wine. Discover the fascinating history behind it while indulging in at least two greatest wines, paired perfectly with local appetizers—perhaps a delightful dish featuring white tuna or salted anchovies.

Once you’ve taken in all the breathtaking landscapes, prepare yourself for the most stunning postcard-worthy view of a vineyard you’ve ever seen. The terrace overlooks vineyard slopes, filled with the fresh ocean breeze, while beyond the Basque Coastline, France beckons in the distance.

“The Way” to Getaria:

Continuing our journey on the Saint James Way, the remainder of the walk is a pleasant descent, treating us to stunning views of Txakoli wine heavens and vineyards, leading us straight to the medieval fishing village of Getaria.

The descent to Getaria is not only easy but offers spectacular views of the surroundings, including those famous Txakoli wine producers.

Once we hit Getaria, you’ll get the lowdown on its famous figures like Cristobal Balenciaga, the fashion icon, and Juan Sebastian Elkano, the captain who first circumnavigated the globe in the 16th century.

Getaria is a grilled fish heaven, and you’ll spot chefs doing their thing on outdoor charcoal grills. We’ll check out Elkano’s monument, stroll the cobbled streets, visit the city hall, and peek into the 15th-century Gothic church of San Salvador.

“Port to table” Lunch with your guide:

Now, get ready to dive into a hearty fisherman’s lunch. Think fresh salad, locally caught fresh grilled fish, and a toast with the crisp local white wine, Txakoli. Your guide will explain the in and out of every dish for a full experience.

After this epic day, we’ll head back to San Sebastian by private transport.
