What you’ll do

Be ready bright and early for pickup at your Cape Town accommodations; your tour vehicle will arrive between 7:45am and 8:30am to collect you. Sit back in your comfortable seat and leave the driving and navigation to your guide as you enjoy the scenery.  Journey down the scenic coast to Hermanus, a town that boasts sweeping ocean vistas. Keep a sharp lookout for right whales breaching and splashing in the coastal waters. Choose to upgrade your tour with a 1.5-hour or 3-hour whale watching cruise off the coast (own expense).  In the afternoon, head to the Hemel en Aarde Valley to visit local vineyards and taste the award-winning South African wines produced there. All tastings are included.  On the way back to Cape Town, travel through the apple-producing regions of Sir Lowry's Pass and Elgin before drop-off.
Highlights
  • Visit coastal Hermanus to see the right whales off shore
  • Upgrade with an optional whale-watching cruise
  • Sip local vintages in Hemel en Aarde valley
  • Round-trip transportation from Cape Town accommodations
Itinerary
1
Following a pickup at your centrally located Cape Town hotel between 7:45am and 8:30am, meet your guide and take a seat in your vehicle to begin your 9-hour tour.
2
First, travel along the coast to the fishing village of Hermanus and admire panoramic views over the open ocean. Along the way, watch the waves for sightings of native right whales splashing through the waters.
3
On arrival, perhaps enjoy an optional 1.5-hour to 3-hour whale-watching boat cruise (own expense) and enjoy views of the whales in their natural habitat.
4
In the afternoon, explore the Hemel en Aarde valley — where fertile vineyards line the rolling hillsides — with your guide, and sample locally made wines in a boutique winery.
5
When your winery visit comes to an end, travel through the pretty apple-growing region of Elgin and Sir Lowry's Pass, and take in sweeping views over the Cape Town skyline. Then, return in comfort to your hotel to conclude your tour.

Cullinan Holdings has introduced a compulsory vaccination policy with immediate effect, as follows. 'With rising global COVID-19 cases among the unvaccinated population, Cullinan Holdings have implemented a policy requiring all guests travelling either on a group or scheduled tour with Thompsons Africa, to be fully vaccinated. A group is defined as any guest travelling with one or more persons who are not family or friends. If however fellow guests are family or friends travelling in isolation of other guests (private bookings), no mandatory vaccination is required (to be reviewed based on the prevailing global circumstances). This requirement applies to groups (ad-hoc and series), Guided Journeys and all scheduled departure day tour experiences, and is done in the interest of creating a safe environment for everyone. It is the guests' responsibility to ensure that they always comply with these requirements. No refunds will be given if guests are unable to undertake some or all their holiday due to their failure to comply with these requirements. Guests will be responsible for any resulting additional costs including travel and accommodation. Proof of vaccinations may be requested, when necessary. We further strongly recommend that guests ensure they have adequate medical and travel insurance for the duration of their stay in Southern Africa.'
