The Herengracht is the most important city canal. Formerly merchants, mayors and influential regents lived here. Now it is a very beautiful canal to walk around. Either side of the canal is filled with beautiful homes, along with shops, restaurants and art galleries. This street has some special charm, especially at night, and it is a great spot for Instagram pictures too! You will also observe the Herenmarkt square, where headquarters of the Dutch West India Company was located. Now it is just playground for children. The Dutch West India Company played an important role in Dutch rich history. It sold gold, furs, sugar, and slaves. Now there is a very nice area to have a walk around.
