Wine Region of Tokaj

Many would consider the Tokaj wine region to be Slovakia’s most famous. Although Tokaj is officially shared with Hungary, popular Slovakian wines also benefit from the beneficial factors of the region. As such producing many of Slovakia’s unique honey wines.

Little Carpathians Wine Region

The Carpathian mountains are positioned in an ideal location for wine tours in Bratislava, that venture to the nearby vineyards. Modra and Pezinok are the two towns to visit in particular, as they have been producing wine within the mountains for almost 3,000 years.

South Slovak Wine Region

If you’re a fan of sweet Hungarian dessert wines or a full-bodied pinot noir, then book a wine tour in Slovakia to the Južnoslovenská region. Alternatively, due to vineyards along the banks of the Danube River, you can also book a wine tour in Budapest that combines the two cities.

Nitra Wine Region

White grape varieties such as Rizling Vlassky and Veltlinske Zelene, in particular, thrive in the natural conditions of the Nitra Wine Region. Largely due to being elevated high above sea level, as such absorbing much of the days' sunlight as possible. In return, giving the vines a distinct flavour, that can be lovingly paired with local food produce.

Central Slovak Wine Region

Sticking to the white wines of Slovakia, the central region is predominantly known for its white grapes. As such, these are responsible for approximately 80% of the vines grown within the region. Although not as world-famous as Tokaj, the central region is also shared with Hungary, just across the border.

East Slovak Wine Region

The natural terroir of a wine region will result in the diversity of grape available.

After all, it’s not a case of simply planting vines and waiting for them to produce fruit. As such, the East of Slovakia is certainly worth the commute.

The long scenic drive through the countryside will come into its own, through terrain of volcanic soils, that are rich in minerals. Resulting in what many consider the country’s best wines, produced by the friendliest of sommeliers.
