Some of the most authentic dishes can be found in the "old city" near Red Fort. Where the neighbourhood is filled with snaking lanes and a rich aroma of Delhi’s flavoursome food culture.

The Best Street Food in Delhi

If you're not already familiar with the capital, then our Delhi street food tours offer a fantastic insight. As they often combine a walking tour of the local traders, while taking in the local sights.

Although, if you do decide to go it alone, then here are just some of the best dishes to try while walking the streets.

Aloo Tikki

A simple but gorgeous tasty dish made from mashed potatoes, stuffed lentils, cottage cheese, and green beans. Everything is then deep-fried in ghee (a clarified butter). The deep-frying procedure ensures the mashed potatoes are turned into a spicy fritter.

Aloo Chaat

A dish of evenly cut boiled potatoes fried and then mixed with green coriander chutney, lemon juice, spices, red chili powder and chaat masala. The delectable combination is served on a small plate and pierced with a toothpick.

Matar Samosa

This is another deep-fried Indian savoury pastry, again with mashed potatoes, green beans, and vegetables. They’re absolutely mouth-watering, with a steaming hot filling – so do be aware!

While many foodies may already be familiar with late-night kebab shops, in India they do things differently. Especially when your Delhi street food tours venture to the world-famous Qureshi Kabab Corner. Here they offer some of the most succulent, chicken and mutton kebabs in the whole of India.

Chicken Haleem

Chicken Haleem is a very slowly cooked Mughlai dish made up of chicken, cooked with wheat, barley, lentils, garamassala, mint, cumin, ginger, and coriander. It is spicy and very flavoursome.

Mutton Korma

Mutton Korma is a Mughlai goat curry that is rich and tasty and the goat meat is cooked to perfection and falls right off the bone.

Biryani is a mixed rice dish that consists of a layer of rice on the bottom; a layer of meat (chicken, lamb, goat, fish, prawns, buffalo, or even beef), vegetables, egg, or paneer in the middle; and another layer of rice on top. The dish also contains a wonderful gravy that is packed with several signature Indian spices that will make your palette go wild!

Bread Pakora

This is a gorgeous comfort dish - layers of tamarind chutney on spread on the bread, then a paneer slice and potato filling are put in between the bread slices. It is then dipped into spicy bean batter and then deep-fried.

Malai Kofta

A fabulous creamy, vegetarian dish that consists of dumpling balls made of potatoes, vegetables, or paneer and fried. It is served in a creamy orange or white sauce. Without question, it is one of the best street food dishes you must try.

A very popular sweet of a deep-fried dough that’s formed in a round shape, topped with a sugary glaze and served with a thick, milky sauce. Unfortunately, is very fatty and loaded with sugar, but hey - that’s what makes it so delicious!
