San Gimignano Vernaccia guided half wine day tour from Siena
San Gimignano is the city of the delicious Vernaccia grape! Vernaccia was first mentioned in 1276, when the City of San Gimignano put duty on this precious wine both for imports and exports. The origin of this vine is uncertain, but its cultivation quickly spread all over Tuscany, in Liguria, and in many other regions in Italy. The production in San Gimignano was renewed for its excellent quality. Vernaccia has a typical straw-yellow colour with golden nuances enhanced by ageing and it boasts an elegant and delicate bouquet, with fruity and flowery notes.
With this tour you will be picked up at your hotel in Siena at 9.30 and transfer to San Gimignano for a self walking tour of the city. You will also have the opportunity to enter the Museum of Vernaccia (ticket not included); this museum gives you the perfect introduction to the world of Vernaccia!
After the museum and walking tour of San Gimignano you will be transferred to La Lastra Winery. For all the wine enthusiasts, this visit is a journey in space and time that starts with the winter pruning of vines and ends up with the rite of wine tasting. During the visit to the ORGANIC vineyards you will go through all the main steps of the agronomic, phenolic and organic cycle in order to understand the complexity of the “vineyard” ecosystem and of an agriculture with low environmental impact. You will then move to the historical cellar where you will discover the chemical-physical and microbiological processes that make a quality production.
