Day 1 : This experience is the best introduction to Japanese bars and nightlife. It can be intimidating to experience first hand, but with my expertise, I will be able to guide you through the ins and outs of a Japanese izakaya and what to expect. This will be a backstage access into the scene.
We will start off with some basic introductions and I will go into the settings of an izakaya. I'll explain its history, what kind of people visit, and what food they serve. All this while I’m showing off the environment of the Izakaya. I'll go into brief details of what popular drinks they serve as well as the dishes. These include matcha-tea sake, whiskey highballs, yuzu-sake, and dishes like yakitori, Japanese fried chicken, beef skewers, and more.
We will also make some unique Japanese cocktails so you can share with friends and I"ll also teach you a few Japanese phrases to learn and use once you make your way to Japan or just casually as well!Kushiya Yokocho
Kushiya Yokocho is a simple and traditional izakaya, packed with young hip people. The food choices here vary from traditional bar snacks and dishes like tebasaki chicken wings, beef platter, yakitori skewers, and green tea sake or oolong sake. *Please note that Izakayas mentioned on the itinerary are sample. The location may be changed in some cases.
HanbeyHanbey is a traditional 50s style izakaya, set to imitate the Showa style look. This place is loud but energetic, where the staff wait to greet you with a smile and open arms. The food and drinks are insanely cheap, but delicious as well. One of the best places to check out in Tokyo!
OnigoriOnigori, aka the gorilla bar, is a funky new Izakaya. Where it takes the modern surfer look and turns it into its own. They specialize in a lot of their own unique dishes like spicy tofu, gyoza, and steaks. You can even choose from a variety of unique drinks only found here.
