Green tea may now be popular all over the world, but it is still not widely known that there are many different teas of Japanese origin, all unique in appearance, odor and flavor. In this program, try five of these authentic teas, including "gyokuro", the ultra-elegant, shade-grown leaf, and learn all about the history and culture of Japanese tea from an accredited tea expert.Â
We also pair each tea with a traditional "wagashi" treat for you to enjoy as a sweet counterbalance to your teas and an authentic flavor to your session. Join us for a sophisticated afternoon; a must-do for tea-lovers!Â
Day 1 : Premium Japanese Tea Tasting Workshop
On this program, you will not only get to try some of the very best Japanese teas, but also learn about their differences, histories and cultural significances from our trained tea instructors. The instructors will prepare for you five of Japan's best varieties â€“ including the famously refined â€śgyokuroâ€ť tea. Traditional sweets known as "wagashi" will also be provided to complement the different teas.
As with all our in-house cultural sessions, this program will take place in our state-of-the-art Grand TJT cultural experiences room.
1. Gyokuro Tea,
The highest-quality Japanese tea, it is grown under shade for at least 20 days. It has a high caffiene content and a sweet flavor.
2. Kombucha Tea
Made on a kelp seaweed base, it is a slightly rich and salty tea thatâ€™s almost broth-like.
3. Mugicha Tea
Made from roasted barley infused in water, it is caffeine-free and has a smooth flavor with no bitterness.
4. Sencha Tea
A popular loose leaf green tea, it is made from tea plants grown in full sun. The tea is dark in color and has a somewhat astringent flavor.
5. Hojicha Tea
Made from the roasted stems and leaves of tea plants harvested late in the season, it has a warm, nutty flavor and low caffeine content.
