Hungary's warmest and southernmost wine region Villany PDO has long, dry, sub-Mediterranean summers and mild winters.
Wine making here has long traditions that is supported by the highest number of sunshine hours amongst Hungarian wine regions.
The wines of the Vill√°ny Wine Region are considered to be wines both of excellent quality.
Although the region was once known for "Olaszrizling", it is the big bold reds that have helped put Villany on international wine maps again.
The most expensive reds in the country are produced here, generally based on the Bordeaux varieties of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc that can compare well with similar red wines from Western European wine growing regions.
Villany-Siklos wine route is filled with centuries of history. Visit the nearby Pecs, which is rich in sites of historical and cultural interest, as well as the medieval Siklós Castle, before being our guest for a wine tasting in one of Villany's many famous, prizewinner cellars.
