Itinerary
1
Tokaj, a renowned sweet wine region, stands as the world's first delimited wine region and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This viticultural treasure boasts a rich history that stretches back for centuries. Its allure lies in the harmonious fusion of loess and volcanic clay soil, creating a perfect microclimate that beckons the elusive noble rot. Indigenous grape varieties thrive in this mystical land, nurtured by a labyrinth of subterranean cellars cloaked in a tapestry of mould.
2
Deep within the heart of this region, two rivers converge, bestowing upon it the ideal humidity levels for the creation of the shrivelled, raisin-like berries essential for the production of the renowned sweet Tokaj wine. A realm solely devoted to white wines, Tokaj unveils a tantalising assortment of both dry and sweet varietals. Yet, expect no crimson elixirs here!
3
While the luscious sweet aszú wines, crafted from botrytized grapes, have earned Tokaj its esteemed reputation, winemakers have gradually shifted their focus to dry wines, with Furmint leading the charge. Enchanting visitors further, Tokaj's underground cellars reveal their secrets, sometimes spanning multiple levels, forming an intricate network of vinous sanctuaries. Among them, a collection of 27 cellars intertwined at various depths stands as an exceptional testament to the region's vinous prowess.
4
Strolling along the village streets, one is greeted by stately ancestral abodes, while two impeccably restored synagogues pay homage to Tokaj's multifaceted heritage. For connoisseurs seeking to delve deeper, our exclusive Tokaj Jewish Heritage & Wine Tour awaits, an illuminating journey through the rich tapestry of Tokaj's Jewish legacy. An exquisite day in Tokaj promises an eternally cherished encounter, rewarding guests with captivating imagery, profound knowledge, and indelible memories.
