Naples: Neapolitan Street Food Walking Tour

Join this guided walking tour at the historical center of Spaccanapoli (Naples Splitter) with stops along the way to selected places for tasting our local staple food straight from its original setting. The tasting will include: coffee, babà or sfogliatella pastries, limoncello liquor and “ wallet” or fried pizza; old recipes that have fed the local folk for centuries.  Your guide will meet you at 9:00 am in Piazza Dante and this tour will last approximately 3 hours in total. The old center has been inhabited at least since the VI century B.C. from the Greeks who mastered its first outstanding urban layout that still exist nowadays. Most of the ancient remains have been embedded into newer buildings or are bared underground, but some of them are still visible from the streets. A stratified district of nearly 3000 years of human activities will be unveiled with the help of your tour guide. The pedestrian areas are filled with small shops and workshops, cafes and restaurants, buskers and street vendors that attract locals and foreigners every day. In this setting, a taste of locals’ staple food is a must. There will be a tasting of: Neapolitan pizza, included on UNESCO 's list of intangible cultural heritage , in its fried or wallet version; sfogliatella, a crunchy pastry filled with a base of ricotta cheese or, alternatively babà, a cake originated in Poland in 1725; espresso coffee in its Neapolitan style; and limoncello, a liqueur typical of the Sorrento and Amalfi coast.
