Avignon for 70 years of the early 1300s was centre of the Catholic world. The skyline a magnificent urban landscape, overlooks the city, river Rhône, Rocher des Doms presenting an exceptional set of monuments that includes the Saint Bénezet Bridge - the famous Pont d’Avignon, the Ramparts, Petit Palais, Cathedral & walls of the Popes’ Palace flanked by four mighty towers.

Start with a visit to the Palais, gardens & bridge before a short drive to the wine country of Châteauneuf du Pape. Châteauneuf du Pape is surrounded by a region steeped in history, culture, and joie de vivre. This picturesque town perched atop a hill rises like an island amidst sprawling vineyards. At its peak, ruins of the 14th-century château imbue a sense of timelessness. The papal Summers at their nearby residence gave rise to the vineyards and aromatic wines that locals swear by.

    We'll pick you up from your hotel or guest house (and we can swing by your rented apartment or villa too). If you arrive by ship at the Marseille Cruise Terminal, we'll meet up and get things started. Since the tour isn't recommended for same-day arrivals and departures, take your time and enjoy the ride. Available from Aix-en-Provence, Marseille or Avignon.

    First stop: Avignon. We'll start by touring the Palais des Papes & Pont St Bénézet, the famous Avignon bridge. Both of these exceptional sites make this visit truly special. After the tour, we'll break for a snack, coffee, or an early lunch in Avignon. Where we will be happy to recommend some local restaurants for lunch.

    Next up: Châteauneuf du Pape. Spend time exploring the village and accompany us to two different vineyards for an arranged tasting - learn all about the vine and production of wine in this exceptional wine region.

    We'll conclude the tour and then return you to Aix-en-Provence, Marseille or Avignon.

  • The tour includes wine tastings as outlined in the itinerary. Additional orders placed during the tour must be paid for by the individual who orders them. If unsure, the tour guide will be happy to assist.

  • Comfortable clothes and shoes are recommended as some walking is involved during your tour.

  • If you're under the age of 18, unfortunately, you cannot consume alcohol. However, there are plenty of delicious non-alcoholic options available.

  • Your tour can be conducted in any of the following languages English or French.

  • The tour lasts 8 hours and your start time will be shared once your booking has been confirmed.

  • Your tour will be led by an expert guide, who is local and has a passion for sharing extensive knowledge about French food, history, and culture

  • We offer pick-up and drop-off services. If you're staying somewhere else apart from the Cruise Terminal in Marseille or a hotel in Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, or Marseille. We can arrange to collect you from your address (at an additional cost). Additionally, we're flexible if you're arriving by train.
